Food Geek Friday: Raspberry Shrub

I think this qualifies as one of the more interesting champagne cocktails I’ve found in quite some time.

And sinfully easy as well.

Another Gojee find, of course.

My love of the bubbly is no secret. (It’s so well known, in fact, that recently a client bought a bottle of the dear widow for us to open at the end of our first work session. Go Team!) So when I saw my dear bubbly mixed with maple syrup (another staple in the Massie home – Grade B, of course) and raspberry syrup (well there’s a twist), I had to try it.

Friends, this one goes down nice and easy. Being a touch sweet and a touch tart, it’s a nice complex flavor that will appeal to most tastes. Plus, being easily mixed individually or as a batch of punch, this drink will be perfect for your New Year’s Eve party.

It will also make a great cover in the unfortunate event that you have a less than splendid bottle of bubbly.

Though I hope that is NEVER the case.

Raspberry Shrub

Ingredients

  • sparkling wine of choice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp raspberry vinegar

Directions

  1. Fill a stemmed glass 3/4 full with sparkling wine.
  2. Pour in maple syrup and raspberry vinegar. Stir well.
  3. Top with ice and enjoy!
